42 Clubs Selected as Prestigious Gaelic4Girls Sites.

Armagh v Waterford - TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Football Intermediate Championship Final

The hugely successful Gaelic4Girls programme has been unveiled today with the sites for the 2014 programme also being announced. 42 clubs representing all 4 provinces have been selected as host clubs for the 2014 season with those lucky clubs reaping all of the benefits associated with being a host club. The undoubted highlight for each club is that their teams get to showcase their new skills in Croke Park with over 1,000 other players.

Clubs been selected based on the following criteria; they have been newly formed, are struggling for numbers or have been able to demonstrate the available playing population in their area. The reward for each club is that they will now be able to attract new players that can form the backbone of their clubs for years to come.

8 clubs from Connacht, 13 from Leinster, 9 from Munster and 12 clubs from Ulster have been chosen as this year’s sites where each club will have a great opportunity to increase membership for their clubs and to train and upskill coaches.

26 counties are represented on the list of 42 clubs to host Gaelic4Girls Programmes over 12 weeks throughout the Summer. The first 8 weeks of the programme are spent teaching the girls the basics of the game, many of the players will never have played the game before, and helping them become comfortable with the ball, with the other players and to become comfortable in a club environment.

The final 4 weeks are spent integrating the Gaelic4Girls participants within the club and with the existing club players where they will play and train as one group. At the end of the 12 weeks, each club is invited to take part in a non-competitive Provincial blitz where they get to interact with other players and clubs and where the coaches will also have the same opportunity.

Each club that is participating in this year’s programme will receive free training for both coaches and co-ordinators and will also be supplied with marketing and advertising material to help boost attendance at their camps.
