The Down ladies started off in determined fashion with Kyla Trainor getting through in the opening minutes for a goal. Lisa Morgan increased Down’s Lead with a long range point.

Kildare came more into the game, began to dominate and pick off long range points. Downs backs Niamh Canavan, Niamh McGowan and Eliza Downey all worked hard to counter the Kildare threat.

Kildare moved forward in numbers and were rewarded with two goals and further points. Down were limited to a single point the rest of this half coming from the boot of Grainne McClean.

With the strong wind behind them in this half Kildare drove at the Down defence and got in for another goal in the opening minutes. Kildare were now dominating in most areas of the field and punished Down by repeatedly whipping over long range points.

Katie Farrell stood up well to the sharp end of the Kildare attack pulling off a number of good saves.

The Down ladies were held scoreless for the first twenty minutes of this half, and Kildare had the game well under control when the broke through for their third goal.

It was not until the final stages of the match that the Down ladies rallied with Kathryn Boden and Ciara McArdle coming in to steady the defence. Kyla Trainor went on strong runs and cut through for her second goal, while the Kildare keeper denied her another with a good save in the closing minutes . Lisa Morgan added a further point to leave the final score
