Previews

A choice of exciting fixtures await ladies’ football supporters
on Sunday as the county minor finals take centre stage to bring
the curtain down on the domestic season in Clare. Top billing goes
to the Minor A final in which reigning champions Miltown will be
hot favourites to retain their crown against challengers Cooraclare.
Miltown have held the whip hand over their arch rivals both at senior
and minor levels these past two seasons and it would be a major
turn up for the form book should this pattern not continue on Sunday.

Miltown will be well prepared for this game having been given the
fright of their lives by the Banner in their semi-final, while Cooraclare
had an easier passage against Wolfe Tones in their semi-final. Cooraclare
did however have a very comprehensive win over a somewhat under
strength Banner team in the group stages so they will be far from
pushovers in this final They will look to Áine Pyne, Aifric
O’Neill and Sally Glynn to deliver big performances if they are
to trouble a Miltown squad that has strength in depth with accomplished
players such as Fiona Lafferty, Sandra Malone, Tara Glynn in their
ranks Expect a spirited and robust challenge from the Sky Blues
but the celebrations will be in Michael O’s on Sunday evening.

In the B Final the Banner Ladies of Ennis should have too much
firepower for Wolfe Tones na Sionna. The Ennis outfit were bitterly
disappointed to lose out to Miltown in the A semi-final and Wolfe
Tones can expect to feel the brunt of the Banner team’s ire as they
strive to salvage some end of season silverware.

The C Final brings two great West Clare rivals together in combat
and expect no quarter to be asked or given when Fergus Rovers and
Shannon Gaels meet. The Gaels held a slight edge over the Lissycasey
girls when they met in the Under 16 C final earlier this year so
the Rovers will be seeking revenge in this one. A close encounter
is guaranteed but the Gaels should consolidate their U-16 win with
another victory.

The Minor Shield Final brings together two clubs who have had an
excellent year in 2006. A rejuvenated Newmarket took U-12 B championship
honours this season and Coolmeen went all the way to the Munster
Junior Final where they were unlucky to go down narrowly to Cork
side Kildorery. This Shield Final game has all the makings of a
cracker but Coolmeen may just have too much experience for the up
and coming Newmarket team.
