Cork Claim RTE Sports Team of the Year Accolade

Cork v Dublin - TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Football Senior Championship Final

The Cork Ladies Football team have won every accolade available to them on the field and yesterday, in the RTE studios, they finally added the elusive Sportsteam of the Year award to their impressive list of honours.

Cork, who claimed their 9th All Ireland title in 10 years this September, beat off some very stiff competition from the likes of the Dundalk soccer team, the Cork camogie team and of course the Irish men’s rugby team. The vote for the award was held as a Text in vote meaning that the Irish public selected the Rebellettes ahead of these other great teams.

Briege Corkery was also nominated in the Sportsperson of the Year Award and Eamonn Ryan was nominated for the Coach of the Year award and although neither was selected as the overall winner in their individual categories their delight was palpable as the result of the vote was announced by Darragh Maloney.

Congratulations to Cork on this wonderful achievement which is a landmark achievement for the sport that they represent but also for all of women’s sports.
