Cork Ladies Football. By Fr.Liam Kelleher.

Cork open defence of Munster under Crown.
On Saturday next at a Kerry venue to be decided Cork Take
on Kerry in their opening match in defence of their Munster
Crown. Cork start with a huge disadvantage having been seeded
straight through to the Munster Semi-final. Kerry on the
other hand have had the benefit of three games in the Championship
and this will be a huge plus factor in their favour. Cork,
have been working very hard since Christmas, they go into
the game with 7 of the Successful All-Ireland winning team
from last year. Cork have not been beaten at under 14 level
since 1999 and in that time have captured 3 Munster and
3 All-Ireland titles. Kerry were the last team to beat them
in 1999, when they went on to win the All-Ireland. Like
all Cork, Kerry games, this will be a hard fought encounter.
Cork with experienced players like Amanda Murphy who is
playing Munster championship under 14 for the 4th year in
a row, Vicky Power, Roisin O’Sullivan. Laura Harrington,
Jenny Luddy, Noelle Corkery Aine O’Sullivan and Rhona Buckley
should have too much strength in depth for Kerry.

Waterford surprise winners over Kerry will play Limerick
in the other Semi-final.

Inter-provincials.
The Inter-provincials take place in Mullingar this week-end.
This is a very difficult competition to predict a winner
of. Of course the outcome depends on the composition of
teams and the availability of players.

Great Reaction.
There has been a huge reaction to the invitation to have
a chance to Sponsor Cork Teams for the year 2003. For just
€100 companies and businesses have an opportunity to put
their name on the famous red jersey of Cork. Last year Cork
won 3 of the 6 All-Ireland tiles available for ladies football
at Inter-co level and this year hope to be equally successful.
The offer is limited to the first 200 applicants and there
will be a draw to determine the winner. There will also
be a draw to determine the Sponsors of the 6, Co. Championships
Senior, Junior, Minor Under 16 under 14 and Under 16. It
is hoped to have the full compliment of 200 within the next
week. A beautiful colour brochure has been launched and
if you would like one, giving the full details of the exciting
venture ring Fr. Liam Kelleher at 087-8516984.

We wish all the players doing Junior Cert and Leaving Cert
the very best in their exams.
