Cork 4.16 Laois 0.00 Cork opened their National
B League campaign with an emphatic victory over
Laois at a breezy , but dry, Rathcormac. From the
throw in a wind assisted Cork were dominant through
the efforts of Emer O’Connell at midfield & hard
working debutants, Linda O’Connell, Niamh Walsh,
& Caitriona O’Connell. From the moment the latter
put the ball over the bar for Cork’s first score
inside two minutes, there was simply no looking
back. Intelligent play from Triona Lucey on the
half forward line was causing panic in the Laois
defence as she released Marie O’Neill & Emer O’Connell
for well taken scores.

Try as Laois might to breach the Cork defence they
met stubborn resistance from Anne M Walsh, Blathnaid
Wiseman , Siobhan Buckley and Mairead Rea. Cork
led by 11 pts to nil at the short whistle. The Cork
management made a raft of changes at half time introducing
such players as Niamh Hickey, Orla McSweeney, Clodagh
O’Driscoll and Ciara O’Sullivan. Cork took up where
they left off in the first half and in the 41st
, 42nd , 49th and 54th minute put the game beyond
the O’Moore county girls with goals from captain,
Eva O’Donoghue, Niamh Hickey and a brace from Ciara
O’Sullivan. Cork will play their next league fixture
away to Galway on Sunday, 26th February
