Minor County Semi Final

The Cork Minor County Semi-Final was finally played
on Sunday last at Kealkill. This was the third time
that this game was fixed and it almost did not happen
again on Sunday as the referee failed to turn up
due to illness.  However, Sean Collins of Caheragh
stepped into the breach to save the day. Dromtariffe
opened the scoring with a point but it was to be
their only one while Beara, from the boots of Amanda
Murphy, Miriam Sheehan, Vicki Power and Claire O’Donoghue
notched up 1-6 before Dromtariffe registered another,
this time from a free.

Bernadette O’Sullivan and Catriona O’Neill added
a point each before the break which brought the
half time score to 1-8 to 0-2.   When play resumed,
the Beara girls added two more points to their tally,
one each from Claire O’Donoghue and Amanda Murphy.
The Dromtariffe girls upped their game considerably
and scored three points in succession.

However, although they launched several attacks
they could not get through the excellent Beara defence.
They were denied that all-important goal on a number
of occasions when the ball was cleared off the line.
Having weathered the storm, Beara continued to press
forward and Laura Power scored another goal for
Beara, which finished the game as a contest. She
added another point and Amanda Murphy’s second goal
of the day brought the final score to 3-13 to 0-5.

Well done to all the girls and to their trainer,
Tim Green.

Beara’s panel were:- Linda Murphy, Maureen Sullivan,
