Elaine Harte Announces Retirement

Cork v Clare - TG4 Ladies Football Munster Senior Championship Final

Elaine Harte has announced her retirement from Intercounty football following a glittering career in the colours of Cork. The Moyne Templtuohy club player made her debut for Cork in 2000 versus Laois and went on to become one of the most decorated players ever to play the game.

Her intercounty career saw Elaine pick up 8 Senior All Ireland titles, 9 Munster titles, 7 Division 1 titles, 1 Division 2 title along with Junior and Intermediate club All Ireland titles. Elaine was also selected as the All Star goalkeeper in both 2008 and 2012.

Her last game was in the 2013 TG4 All Ireland Final where she had a huge influence in deciding the result of the game as she pulled off a stunning save from Catriona McConnell to ensure that Cork retained their title. Elaine is one of the very few players that has started and finished every one of the 8 All Ireland finals that Cork won since their first in 2005.

Cork will now be without the services of Elaine and her long time teammate, Juliet Murphy, who also called time on her intercounty career after the 2013 TG4 All Ireland Final.

Speaking about her retirement Elaine said ‘I have had an amazing time playing football with Cork. I have made some of the best friends that a person could hope to have and I would like to thank my team mates, managers and the county board for their amazing support throughout my career. If you had told me that I would have been part of a team that won 8 All Ireland titles when Eamonn Ryan took over I probably wouldn’t have believed you but that is a measure of the man and the team I played with. I will take many precious memories with me from my playing days and I look forward to staying involved in the game now that I am no longer playing.’
