Fermanagh Herald Sports Awards 2008 The Fermanagh Herald Sports Awards 2008 were held in the Manor Court Hotel, Enniskillen last Friday night. The Fermanagh Ladies Senior team were nominated in two categories. The team were nominated in the Sports Team of the Year category and were up against stiff competition in the form of the Fermanagh Senior Men’s Team, Lisbellaw Hurling Club, Enniskillen Town Soccer Club to mention just a few. The Fermanagh Ladies were nominated on the back of winning the first Ulster Provincial adult title for the county in 2008. To the surprise and delight of those present at the Gala Event, Lisbellaw Hurling Club walked away with the accolade of Fermanagh Herald Sports Team of the Year. The Second category in which Fermanagh Senior Ladies were nominated was for Manager/Coach of the year in the form of Paula Cunningham. Her main opponent on the night was Malachy O’Rourke manager of the County’s Senior Men’s team. It was no surprise given the year that his team had in reaching the Ulster Senior Final and a National League Final that Malachy O’Rourke was given the award. Fermanagh Ladies County Board were represented by the County chairman, Declan Murphy and the County Secretary, Derbhla McHugh. The Fermanagh Ladies Management were represented by Paula Cunningham and David Mee and the Fermanagh Ladies players were represented by Donna Maguire and Edel McGovern. Also present were Geraldine McGovern and Patsy Maguire, also representing the County Board. The Fermanagh Herald and the other main sponsors of the Event should be congratulated for hosting such an enjoyable and well supported evening in support of Fermanagh’s sporting men and women.
