Gaelic4Girls Blitz Takes Place in Ulster

On Saturday 18 June all roads led to Badoney (Gortin, Co. Tyrone) for the Ulster Gaelic4Girls Provincial Blitz. All 9 clubs that participated in this year’s programme in Ulster attended. Some clubs had 4 teams and some had 2 teams in attendance with over 210 girls getting football in a fun, non-competitive environment. In total there were 4 groups with 5 teams in each group. The participating clubs were Clan Na Gael, Killeavy (Armagh) Beart, Kilcar (Donegal) RGU Downpatrick, Saval (Down) Corduff (Monaghan) and Badoney, Edendork (Tyrone).

Each team got at least 4 games in their group and all the young G4G had a super day out playing games and developing new friendships from Gaels throughout Ulster. The blitz itself was superbly organised by the Badoney Ladies Club (Gortin). From start to finish everything was in place from the pitch markings to referees all supplied, and having tea and sandwiches for all clubs mentors and travelling parents. They really did pull out all the stops and it was greatly appreciated by all visiting clubs and by Ulster Ladies. We wish to thank Badoney Ladies and especially Edel Mc Connell for coordinating everything at her club.

The blitz and the programme has been a great success and the next step now is for these girls to integrate into the club and start playing girls football with the club teams over the next few years. I also want to thank all clubs for their assistance so far and look forward to seeing you all in Croke Park for the National blitz on Monday 25th July.
