Gaelic4Girls Regional Blitzes in November

Muck and Rain does not deter Gaelic4Girls participants.

On the 26th of November the latest round of Gaelic4Girls programmes were brought to a close with two regional Blitz Days. Over 450 girls between the ages of 9 and 13 attended each venue. The North East was served by a Blitz in GAA Training ground in Cloghan Co Monaghan. At the other end of the Country, those in the south west attended a blitz in Lorrha Co. Tipperary.

In each venue there were at least 50 volunteers present. Some travelled with teams, some gave up their time to co-ordinate pitches or referee, county players came to talk to the kids, and others came along and did a bit of everything! To facilitate events and programmes like this, volunteers are essential.  The Urban Programme Officers and all the Gaelic4Girls players are eternally grateful for any support they received over the last few months.

The Areas that have been involved in Gaelic4Girls since September 2011 are as follows:

Carlow Town, Kilbeggan, Edgeworthstown, Castlecomer, Graignamanagh, Mitchelstown, Blarney/Kerry Pike, Mount Sion, Cappoquin, Corbally/Kings Island, Kilmallock, North Kerry, Lorrha- Dorrha, Bagenalstown, Greystones, Bray, Kildare Town, Rathangan, Armagh City, Portadown, Coleraine, Derry City, Banbridge, Downpatrick, Castleblayney, Monaghan Town, Trim , Navan , Elphin, Roscommon Town and Athlone

In all the above areas the aim is that those who participated in Gaelic4Girls will filter into an existing club or the Gaelic4Girls programme will be the impetus to found a club.

The LGFA Development team are currently in the planning stages to decide upon the next Gaelic4Girls sites that will begin in the New Year.
