CLARE 1-04    GALWAY 4-12

Galway Minor and Senior ladies had easy wins against Mayo and Clare at the weekend. The seniors travelled to Corofin on Sunday to take on Clare. Una Carroll pointed in the 1st min to get them on their way and a Roisin Leonard free in the 5th min doubled the score. The Clare girls were well up for the game and were matching Galway in every area of the pitch except in the forward line and it was the 16th min before Galway added their 3rd point by Lorna Joyce.

In the 20th min Galway increased the pace and added 3 scores in a 2 minute spell. Roisin Leonard scored a goal and a point while Meadbh Maloney added another point that killed off any Clare challenge. Another Leonard point followed by one from Barbara Hannon and a goal by Caitriona Cormican saw Galway end the half with a 2-07 to 0-00 lead.

Annette Clarke got on the score sheet at the start of the 2nd half with a point. Roisin Leonard found the back of the net again in the 4th min and Barbara Hannon got her 2nd point before Clare got their first point, a free by Louise Henchy. Meadbh Maloney got a yellow card in the 12th min and from the resulting free Clare scored a goal by Grainne Nolan.

Galway were reduced to 13 in the 17th minute when Roisin Leonard got a yellow but were still too strong for Clare and a brillant move in the 20th min saw Ger Conneally hit the back of the net for Galway’s 4th goal. Clare added 2 late points but Galway finished the game with a score of Clare 1-04    Galway   4-12. Next up for Galway is a home game against Westmeath.

Meanwhile on Saturday the Minors started the defence of their All Ireland crown with a trip to Balindine to play Mayo. Best on the day were Louise Ward with 4 goals, Ciara Lynagh with 3-02 and Olivia Divilly with 1-06.
