'It is fantastic to finally have scientific research out in the scholarly world on the Gaelic4Girls programme'

CORK’s Orlagh Farmer is one of the leading advocates of our hugely-successful Gaelic4Girls Programme.

She is one of the contributors to a journal article which is currently ‘in press’, a paper entitled ‘Enhancing the Evidence-Base for Irish Female Youth Participation in Physical Activity – The Development of the Gaelic4Girls Programme.’

Once published, this work will appear in the Women in Sport and Physical Activity Journal.

You can read Orlagh’s previous work at this LINK, a 2017 publication entitled ”The relationship between Actual Fundamental Motor Skill Proficiency, Perceived Confidence and Competence, and Physical Activity in 8-12 Year-Old Irish Female Youth.’

We are more than happy to spread the work about these two published papers and we congratulate Orlagh and her colleagues, including Dr. Wesley O’Brien, on their work.

Orlagh told us: “It is fantastic to finally have scientific research out in the scholarly world on the Gaelic4Girls programme.”

We also congratulate Orlagh on the news that she has been awarded the prestigious Government of Ireland Postgraduate Irish Research Council Scholarship for her final PhD year, which is due to commence shortly.

This scholarship application process is highly competitive, (with an average success rate of 19% over the last 5 years), and Orlagh told us that she is “absolutely delighted” to be a successful application.

She added: “It’s great for the Gaelic4Girls programme too as the Irish Research Council obviously recognise the impact of G4G in community sports-based settings.

“I will be commencing this scholarship programme shortly.”
