Just One Place to be Decided for This Year's Club Finals

GALWAY and Armagh clubs will contest the All-Ireland ladies intermediate club football final at Parnell Park on Sunday, December 4.

Annaghdown from Galway saw off Waterford opponents Abbeyside at Fraher Field in Sunday’s semi-final, running out 1-8 to 0-6 winners.

And on home soil, Armagh’s Shane O’Neill’s accounted for 2012 intermediate champions Parnell’s (London) on a 3-7 to 1-10 scoreline.

Niamh Duggan, TG4 All-Ireland senior medallist with Galway in 2004, got the ball rolling for Annaghdown with the first point of a low-scoring opening half.

Duggan was her side’s sole scorer as Annaghdown led by 0-3 to 0-2 at half-time, with Maria Delahunty (free) and Roisin Tobin on target for Abbeyside on local ground.

Rachel King’s 1-1 in the second half was critical for Annaghdown as they advanced to the final in less than a fortnight.

In Armagh, Aimee Mackin’s hat-trick of goals proved decisive against Parnell’s.

Shane O’Neill’s led by 1-6 to 0-4 at half-time, with the Mackin sisters prominent.

Blaithin supplied Aimee just before the interval for the game’s opening goal and Aimee added a second goal after the break.

Leading by nine points, Shane O’Neill’s looked good for a comfortable win but spirited Parnell’s responded with an unanswered 1-5 burst to trail by just the bare minimum.

Aimee Mackin completed her hat-trick to ease any Shane O’Neill’s nerves and they held out for a three-point win.

In the junior championship, goals from All-Star Orla Finn, All-Ireland minor medallist Sadhbh O’Leary and Jennifer Murphy helped Kinsale past Mayo’s Kilmoremoy, as the Cork outfit won by 3-15 to 2-9.

Ciara Whyte and Sarah Rowe (penalty) were on target with the Kilmoremoy goals and in the other semi-final, Dublin’s St Maurs and Monaghan representatives Latton O’Rahilly will have to do it all over again after drawing 4-11 apiece after extra-time.
