Kerry Ladies News & Notes 25.05.2015

Congratulations to Miltown/Listry on winning the Rhyno Quality Feeds Div 4 title on Friday evening in Ardfert. They defeated Clounmacon/Moyvane in a final scoreline Milltown-Listry 7-12 Clounmacon/Moyvane 3-9,. The North Kerry Ladies were dealt a hard blow when marquee forward Erin Finucane came off injured in the early stages of the first half with a serious knee injury. This meant a reorganisation of the team & perhaps hindered their attacking strategy. Miltown/Listry however gave a great display of midfield & attacking with most of their scores coming from play. A delighted captain accepted the title from Ger Maunsell on behalf of sponsor Rhyno Quality Feeds. There were also Kerry Ladies B Finals in the Div 2 & Div 3 Rhyno Quality Feeds. In Div 2 B Na Gaeil defeated Listowel Emmets on score of  Listowel Emmetts 2-5, Na Gaeil 3-12. Top scorer for Na Gaeil was Sarah Cunningham and top scorers for Listowel were Aoife Kennelly, Heather O Rourke and Aisling Grimes. It was good test for both sides heading into championship in a few weeks. The remaining final the weekend was the Div 3 B Final between East Kerry neighbours Currow & Spa. With the old adage of goals winning games proving correct for Spa where Currow failed to breach their counterparts full back line. Spa ran out eventual winners Spa 3-11, Currow 0-7.

Commiserations to our Kerry Ladies U14 team who lost out in heartbreaking circumstances in the recent All Ireland Blitz. In their first game they were defeated by Meath by a single point 0-4 to 1-02, despite having the lion’s share of possession they couldn’t get those elusive scores. But the team recovered very well & went on to defeat Dublin 4-03 to 0-01, Monaghan 2-05 to 0-00, Cork 2-02 to 1-01 & also Waterford who knocked them out of the Munster championship on a scoreline of 1-02 to 1-00. As the group ended up in a 3 way tie it was decided that a free taking competition would decide who would go on to the final. Unfortunately, Meath were Kerry Ladies undoing again as they won the free taking competition & went on to the final. The team played some great football & we are sure that if they progressed to the final they would have done the job. Well done to the team management of Rory Kilgallen, John Doona, Frank McLoughlin, Christena Curtin, Nora O’Connor & Frances Bowler. This team have a bright future ahead of them.

Well done to Kerry Ladies players on the Munster Ladies Inter Provincial team who were in action the weekend. They defeated Leinster in the Shield final. Kerry Ladies players in action for Munster were: Cait Lynch, Caroline Kelly, Bernie Breen, Lorraine Scanlon, Patrice Dennehy Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh, Amanda Brosnan, Emma Sherwood, Aisling Leonard.
