Kilmihil Intermediate Ladies Win First Round Tie

Kilmihil: 5.10 Liscannor: 1.05

Kilmihil and Liscannor met in the first round of the Intermediate Championship in a wet and windy Miltown last week.

Liscannor were first off the mark with a point from Aine Burke. This was quickly cancelled out with a point followed by a goal from Eimear Considine. Ailish Considine popped over a free before a blistering shot from Sarah Cahill was deflected over the cross bar by the Liscannor goal keeper. Aine Burke added a point for Liscannor from a free. Eimear Considine added two further points before Liscannor netted a somewhat fortuitous goal. Kilmihil’s Una Downes finished the first half scoring with a point leaving the half time score 2.06 to 1.02 in favour of Kilmihil.

Liscannor now had the advantage of the stiff wind but Kilmihil tacked on two points from the boot of Ailish Considine. Liscannor had a purple patch and threw everything at Kilmihil and were rewarded with three points, two from the boot of Minnie Considine and one from her midfield partner. Kilmihil regrouped and were rewarded with a 45. A free ensued and was easily slotted over by Ailish Considine. It was all Kilmihil at this stage, Eimear Considine adding another point followed by a goal from Joan O’Halloran and two goals from Una Downes leaving the final score 5.10 to 1.05.

Kilmihil Easily Through Round Two

Kilmihil: 5.15 Wolfe Tones: 1.04

Kilmihil and Wolfe Tones met in the second round of the Clare Intermediate Championship played in atrocious conditions on Monday evening in Ballyea. 2007 Intermediate Finalists, Kilmihil, just had too much for a young inexperienced Wolfe Tones outfit. Kilmihil dominated in every sector of the field and their forwards enjoyed a plentiful supply of ball.
Kilmihil opened the scoring in the first minute of the game with a point from Eimear Considine. This was quickly cancelled by a point from Wolfe Tones. Ailsh Considine pointed a placed ball and her sister Eimear blasted home the first of Kilmihil’s five goals. Denise O’Halloran & Sarah Cahill added points and Ailish Considine scored her first goal. Shannon scored their second and final score of the first half with a well taken point before Eimear Considine added a goal and a point. Dympna Walsh tacked on a point and there was a further brace of points from Ailish and Eimear Considine. Ailish Considine rattled the Wolfe Tones net and from the resulting kick out lobbed the retreating goalie to record her hat trick. Kilmihil’s final scores of the first half came from a free from Ailish Considine and a point from play from the boot of Denise O’Halloran, leaving the half time score 5.12 to 0.02 in favour of Kilmihil.

On the resumption Kilmihil’s Dympna Walsh and Eimear Considine added on further points with Wolfe Tones registering a point from a free. Denise O’Halloran then threw over a point killing any hope of a Wolfe Tone resurgence. Conditions had deteriorated somewhat and made it difficult to play football. Wolfe Tones were dealt a heavy blow early in the second half when they lost Stephanie Regan to injury. Full credit to the Shannon outfit who fought to the end and were rewarded with a goal after a great run from Toni Lagan. They added on another point leaving the final score 5.15 to 1.04 to Kilmihil.
