Longford set up meeting with Leitrim

Longford 4-13

Cavan 3-09

Longford set up a mouth watering TG4 All Ireland
Junior Championship semi-final meeting with Leitrim after a high
scoring victory over neighbours Cavan in Pearce Park.

The home side opened the brighter and helped by goal from Edel
Quinn they led 1-02 to 0-02 after twelve minutes. The eventual
winners were then dealt a severe blow after just fourteen minutes
when they lost their inspirational Sharon Treacy through injury.

This seemed to knock them back and Cavan gained control but
were wasteful in front of the posts. They hit the front with just
five minutes of the half remaining with a wonderful shot from
aisling Traynor to the back of the net. Longford hit back with
a brace to level matters at the interval 1-06 a piece.

Longford hit two early points after the resumption before Cavan
were awarded a penalty. However Michelle Kilkenny saved brilliantly
from Bronagh Sheridan to keep her side in front. The home side
never looked back and went onto hit three goals from player of
the match Denise Murtagh and two further goals from Quinn. Cavan
kept plugging away and were rewarded with majors from Grainne
Smith and Brid Boylan late on.
