Major new sponsorship deal for Cork

Major New Sponsorship Deal launched By Fr Liam Kelleher

Castlelands Construction was officially revealed as
the new sponsor of Cork Ladies Football at the Carrigoon
GAA Sportsgrounds in Mallow on Monday. Castlelands Construction
have penned a deal, to sponsor Cork Ladies Football for
the next two years with a substantial five figure investment
per annum. This is the largest sponsorship deal in the
history of ladies county football and is further proof
of the appeal of the game not only in Cork but across
the length and breadth of the country. Cork have dominated
ladies football over the past few years winning the Senior
All-Ireland and National League titles in 2005 and 2006.
Cork are also the reigning All-Ireland champions at both
Minor and under-14 level and lost out to Dublin in last
year’s under-16 All-Ireland final. Castlelands have played
an active role in grassroots GAA in Mallow where they
provided funding of €8 million to assist in providing
what is surely one of the finest GAA facilities in the
country at Mallow GAA Club and now they have invested
in one of the leading forces in Ladies Football.

Tom O’ Sullivan, Castlelands Construction said, “We are
fiercely proud of our strong roots within the community,
particularly in Mallow but also throughout Cork and we
are delighted to be getting involved with Cork Ladies
Football. We have an unrivalled track-record in investment
in local sporting, cultural and educational initiatives
and our support of the Rebelettes is just another example
of our belief in the importance of re-investing in the
local community”. At the announcement of the new sponsorship
deal, Tom Luddy, Chairperson of the Cork Ladies Football
Council said, “The investment made by Castlelands Construction
in Ladies Football in Cork is a testament to the success
of our county teams at all levels of the game and with
the support of Castlelands we are much better placed to
maintain that success by providing the very best for all
our representative teams.” There are 56 Ladies Football
Clubs in Cork with over 10,000 members. Cork are the reigning
All-Ireland Champions at Senior, Minor and Under-14 level.
Castlelands Construction was established in Mallow in
1988 by John and Elaine Barry and has become one of the
most successful residential construction and development
companies in Ireland.

Castlelands success in Mallow has been followed by the
development of major residential schemes in Kilkenny,
Midleton, Cork City, Carrigaline, Whitechurch and latterly,
London. Castlelands Construction currently employs over
700 people, directly or indirectly and build some 700
houses per annum. They have recently expanded into the
UK and will shortly be undertaking a landmark 27 storey
apartment development in London’s Docklands. Cork tackle
Kerry in Senior Championship Cork Seniors travel to a
Kerry venue on Saturday to take on the Kingdom ladies,
in the Munster Senior Championship. Both teams will be
seeking redemption from recent reverses. Cork are still
smarting after their shock defeat to Mayo in the Suzuki
League Semi-final, while Kerry were shocked by Waterford
in the first round of the Championship. Cork have a much
better depth of talent than Kerry and that should see
them through on Saturday
