Colaiste Bhaile Chláir, Galway held their opponents scoreless in the second half, as they scored 6-8 unanswered to come from behind and claim the Lidl All-Ireland PPS Senior C title in ideal conditions at Kinnegad.

Both teams were contesting their first ever decider, and certainly served up a cracker, with Trim leading 2-7 to 1-2 at half-time, and continuing to put on the pressure on the restart, but their opponents managed by Sarah Conneally made the strongest of comebacks.

Claregalway were without Galway Minor player Andrea Trill for this game due to a knee injury, in the only change from the side named in the match programme.

Trim burst out of the blocks well, with three points on the board inside five minutes with Sarah Ennis, Caroline Quinn and Leah Devine on target.

Indeed Claregalway’s first attack wasn’t until the sixth minute, with a Ciara McCarthy effort dropping short, but they firmly made amends a minute later, with a superb Niamh Moran goal.

But Trim were strong, and from the resulting kick-out, Leah Dennehy fired the first of her two goals.

This kick-started another strong spell for the Meath outfit, who added a further four unanswered points to ensure a 1-7 to 1-0 lead after 21 minutes.

Sarah Lynch with two fine points, and Sophia Payne and Devine also on target.

Claregalway fired their first point thanks to Ciara McCarthy, but Trim hit back with Dennehy taking her second goal.

Claregalway had the final say before the break however, cutting the gap to eight points thanks to an Eimear Mitchell score.

On the restart Trim worked hard, but countless efforts dropped short, or were well saved by Claregalway keeper Ava Murray inside the first 10 minutes of the half..

During this spell, Claregalway managed a point from Eimear Mitchell, while it took a further seven minutes for the next score from substitute Shauna Brennan, who really made an impact on this game.

Kaitlin Kearney, Sinead Donovan and Eimear Mitchell added points, before a spell which saw Claregalway score 3-1 inside two minutes, in the process taking a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

The Galway outfit scored six goals unanswered between the 50th and 60th minutes, with Sinead Donovan, Shauna Brennan, Kate Slevin, Brennan again, Niamh Moran and Eimear Mitchell finding the net.

The pressure came on Claregalway again late on in this game, but once again their defence stood firm, with goalkeeper Ava Murray also pulling off some fine saves, Brennan capping a fine display with the final point in the second minute of injury-time, as they went on to take their first All-Ireland title.

After the game Coláiste Bhaile Chláir captain Gemma Coll accepted the Cup from LGFA President Marie Hickey, with Kate Slevin receiving the Lidl Player of the Match award.
