Ulster champions Armagh’s unbeaten league run came to an end yesterday
as they were beaten by Laois 2-5 to 1-4. The Orchard girls just
never got going and trailed at the break 0-2 to 1-2. Maria O Donnell
scored a second half goal but it was much too little too late.
All in all it was a pretty bad performance lacking in the usual
high workrate.

Monaghan on the other hand managed to secure their first points
of the league with an excellent 0-11 to 0-10 win over Kildare.
The foundation for this win was the introduction of substitutes
Slainey Murray and Majella Woods. The pair gave the Farney girls
a lot more power upfront and the duo didn’t let their manager
down, scoring three points between them and setting up almost
all of the other second half scores. Monaghan battled hard and
eventually took the lead mid way through the second half and while
Kildare did finish strong Monaghan held on for the narrowest of
wins.

Donegal remain pointless after losing to Galway 2-11 to 1-6. A
Karen Guterie goal early in the second half did put the Tir Chonnail
girls ahead however goals from Sarah Cosgrove and Phil Fitzpatrick
helped Galway maintain their top of the table position.

Cavan maintained their unbeaten run in Division 3. The Breffni
girls hammered Offaly 4-22 to 2-7. Grainne Smith finished top
scorer with 1-6 while the other Breffni goals came from Bronagh
Sherdian, Una Cusack and Brid Boylan.

Edel Gallagher was the toast of Antrim yesterday. The St. Galls
forward ran riot, scoring 3-3 as the Saffrons beat Derry 3-10
to 1-3. The result will give Antrim loads of confidence ahead
of the championship meeting of the same two teams later in the
season

And finally the Tyrone v Kerry game was postponed yesterday owing
to the death of Nora Connolly, Augher. Nora was the mother of
former Tyrone manager Aidan Connolly and the mother in law of
the Tyrone Honourary President Mary Connolly. The thoughts and
prayers of all involved in ladies football in the province are
with Aidan and Mary at this time.
