Tyrone got back to winning ways with a 1-11 to 0-7
victory over Dublin. The foundation for the win
was excellent first half performance. Youngster
Sarah Connolly grabbed a goal to give the Red Hand
County a 1-6 to 0-3 interval lead. Dublin tried
hard to get back into the game in the second half
but excellent performances from Maura Kelly, Lynette
Hughes and Ann Dooher prevented them from doing
so.

Monaghan’s game with Meath is one that the Farney
girls will want to forget. The Royal County hit
the crossbar three times in the first five minutes
and a brace of goals from Mary Sheridan helped them
to a 2-5 to 0-2 halftime lead. Things got even worse
in the second half as the stronger Royals went on
to win 3-18 to 0-4.

Donegal also suffered a heavy defeat at the hands
of Galway 5-13 to 1-7. Despite starting without
the injured Debbie Lee Fox and Maria Deveaney the
Tir Chonnail girls had a dream start with Yvonne
Mc Monagle firing over two early points and scoring
a penalty to give her side a five point lead. Galway
rallied late in the half and fired in three goals.
The tribeswomen continued to dominate the second
half and deservedly won by 18 points.

Wexford defeated Cavan in their first outing of
the year 2-11 to 0-11. From a Cavan point of view
the damage was done in the first half as Wexford
scored 2-6 while all the Breffni side could manage
was three points. Cavan did improve in the second
half but a combination of wides and shots into the
Wexford keepers arms didn’t help their cause.

Down also suffered defeat to Southern opposition
as they were beaten 2-10 to 1-11 by Tipperary. A
goal from Michaela Downey with just a minute remaining
seemed to have given the Mourne girls victory but
Tipperary replied immediately with a goal of their
own to win by two points. Maeve Mc Conville was
the pick of the Down side while Aileen Pyers and
Michaela Downey contributed 0-5 and 1-3 respectively.

Fermanagh made it two out of two as hammered Carlow
2-14 to 0-4. Emer Martin finished top scorer with
2-4. The Fermanagh management used the opportunity
to give all their subs a run.

Antrim were beaten by double scores in their first
outing of the 2006 season. Wicklow won the game
4-10 to 2-5.
