Armagh 0-13 Tyrone 1-3

Armagh Ladies made it two wins out of two in the Dowd Cup when they defeated Tyrone in the Athletic Grounds on Thursday evening. The Orchard girls used the strong wind to their advantage in the first half, notching up nine points. Any openings Tyrone found were quickly closed off by a sharp Armagh defence. Niamh Marley and Dervla Mallon were particularly tenacious and ensured that Tyrone were held scoreless for the first half. Armagh dominated posessiohn all over the field and up front the accurate shooting of Aiofe Lennon, Mags McAlinden, Shauna O'Hagan and Meabh Moriarty ensured Armagh went in at the break with a nine point advantage.

Tyrone started the second half with all guns blazing. They put three points on the board in quick sucession before Lynda Donnelly's shot sneaked past Emma Guy into the back of the net. The goal was the catalyst for Armagh to lift their game again with Mags McAlinden and substitute Marian McGuinness ensuring there would be no way back for Tyrone.

This was a very encouraging victory for Armagh. Both sides were without their university players which gave some new faces the opportunity to stake their claim for a place on the Armagh team of 2010. All over the field there were strong performances and the fitness level of the team was particularly impressive. Although conditions were poor some of the passages of play were superb which certainly bodes well for the upcoming league campaign.
