Burns to take over Monaghan senior post

DONAGHMOYNE’S Annmarie Burns has been appointed the new manager of the Monaghan ladies senior team.

The 5 time all-Ireland club winner was ratified as the new senior supremo at a county board meeting on Wednesday night, and will succeed Paula Cunningham in the hot seat.

Burns, still a current player with her club, made the step into the management set-up in 2014, working alongside Francie Coleman and Noel Marron.

Speaking following her appointment Burns, a former winner of two Ulster medals with Monaghan said: “I’m looking forward to this new challenge,” while she believes believes “there is plenty of potential in the county and hopefully we will be able to work as a team to achieve the final goal.”

Monaghan lost out to Donegal in this year’s Ulster final before bowing out to Cork in the All-Ireland qualifiers.

They retained their Lidl Division 1 League status following a play-off victory over Armagh.

That victory will see the Oriel girls begin an unbelievable 26th successive year in the top flight in January when their league campaign gets underway and Burns will be calling the shots on the sidelines.

The full backroom team will confirmed in the coming weeks.
