Cork Ladies Football. By Fr. Liam Kelleher - Another title for Beara

Beara 2-10 St Vals 1-03.

The long awaited Co, Under 16 final from 2002, finally took place in Ballingeary on Saturday last and Beara added another title to their collection, when they defeated old rivals St Vals in a thrilling game. In the end the scoreline does injustice to the valiant efforts of the mid Cork girls.

The West Cork girls led a the break on a scoreline of 2-03 to 1-01 their goals coming from scorer in chief Amanda Murphy and Bernadette O’Sullivan, while Ellen Healy hit the net for Vals. Scoring was low in the 2nd half with Beara in no danger at any stage of losing their crown. They were best served by Claire 0’Donoghue, Laura and Vicky Power Amada Murphy and the Goggin Twins, Amanda and Bernadette. Best for Vals were Briege Corkery, Niamh Canty, Nicole Barrett, Ellen Healy, Emma Dunne and Louise Coghlan, who sustained a hand injury.

Beara are now the Co under 12,14, 16 and Junior Co Champions for 2002 and with the minor Championship yet to be played they have a chance of that title also, as well as the under 13 blitz
