MINOR MUNSTER SEMI-FINAL
Saturday 23 April Minor Munster Semi-Final Cork
V Waterford Fermoy, 1pm

When it comes to assets, experience is it for
the Cork Minor ladies. With eleven players in
the ranks who have contributed at either junior
or senior level, their opponents better beware
in the Munster Semi-Final on Saturday. This season
there are five influential senior players on the
panel alone, including All-Star Rena Buckley and
nominee Geraldine O’Flynn. It’s frightening to
think of the familiarity these athletes have with
regards the ‘big stage’, at such a tender age.
However despite the big names in the squad, it
is the younger players who have been the driving
force in this years Minor campaign. The likes
of Deirdre Cotter, Emma Dunne and Rhona Buckley
are certainly beginning to make their names households
ones – if they already haven’t done so. There
is a perfect fit between the ‘older generation’
and the upcoming talent and it looks like Cork
are more than capable of making it three in a
row. However, without sounding too cliché, the
Rebels’ will have to take it one game at a time.
The reason being, that winning has become more
than a habit for the underage players of Cork
and it’s possible for complacency to creep in.
And when complacency strikes, something always
comes round the corner when you least expect it.
Therefore the one game at a time approach is the
best to be adopted.

Manager Charlie McLoughlin is more than aware
of the threats the Deise will launch. “We will
certainly be up against it”, he said. “Waterford
are a fighting county and they will battle until
the final whistle. For this reason we cannot afford
to take them lightly, or any of our opponents
for that matter”. “If we perform on the day however
there’s no stopping us”, added the Nemo man. Cork
are Munster champions for a reason and our neighbours
Waterford are quite capable of causing a shock
defeat. Meanwhile having defeated Tipperary recently
the U14 squad take on Waterford also in the Munster
Quarter finals in Glanworth at 10am tomorrow.
