DLGFA – Weekly Notes 23rd November 2009

The DLGFA annual convention takes place this Tuesday evening 24th November in Parnell Park at 8pm. It will be preceded by a Board meeting starting at 7.15pm. A full attendance is requested.

The Annual Awards night held in the Red Cow Inn last Friday was an outstanding success. The compere for the evening was none other than RTE’s Joanne Cantwell who kept matters ticking over very smoothly. Chairperson, Camillus Kilpatrick, welcomed everybody and spoke proudly of another great year for Dublin football despite not winning the senior finals. The seniors were presented with their Leinster winners medals and All-Ireland runners-up medals. The senior B team received their Aisling McGing All Ireland runners-up medals and the minors their Leinster winners medals. Senior A Players Player of the Year Awards was presented to Siobhan McGrath, Thomas Davis while Noelle Comyn, Ballyboden St. Enda’s was the Management Player of the Year. Players Player of the Year for the Senior B team went to Sinead Finnegan, Fingallians while the Management award went to Sarah Stritch, St. Margarets. The minor awards went to Orla Egan, Na Fianna and Rachel Byrne, Clann na Gael Fontenoy. The Dublin All-Ireland Junior winning team of 1989 were honoured at the ceremony. The vast majority of that team were present for the occasion. Dublin GAA Board Chairperson, Gerry Harrington, was present for the ceremony as was Cormac Farrell and Louise Kelly of O Neills along with representatives from Elverys. Sean McMullan, President, Leinster Ladies Football also attended. John Sheridan, Kilmacud Crokes, was deservingly inducted into the Dublin Ladies Football Hall of Fame. Parnells GAA club were awarded the DLGFA club of the year award.

DLGFA wishes to convey its sincere sympathy to the family of Eilis O Leary who passed away at the weekend after a long and brave battle with illness. Eilis played her football with Raheny and the Dublin Senior B team. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilis.
