Down Maintain Winning Form

Cavan 1-8 Down 1-13

A personal tally of 1-6 from corner forward Lauren Cunningham helped Down book their place in this years Ulster intermediate final. The lively corner forward started in fine form hitting the first three points of the game. Cavan were slow to get going but then between the 10th and the 20th minute they hit 1-4 on the trot, the goal a wonderful strike from Grainne Smith. Down didn’t panic and they then had their own purple patch, hitting five unanswered points to lead at the break 0-8 to 1-4.

Cunningham and Bronagh Sheridan traded early points in the second half and then in the 38th minute Cunningham found the Cavan net. The Breffni girls responded with points from Sheridan and Clara O Reilly.  Grainne Mc Clean then stepped up to the plate and punished poor Cavan defending with four points from four frees. Clara O Reilly scored the last point of the game but it was too little too late and Down will now play Fermanagh in the TG4 Ultser Intermediate final.
