Dublin Ladies Team named for Leinster Final Clash!

Dublin Ladies Team named for Leinster Final Clash!

Dublin boss John O’Leary has named his team for the TG4 Leinster
Championship final versus Laois. The final which takes place this
Sunday the 25th of July at 3.45pm in Dr. Cullen Park will be Dublin’s
fourth final in a row against the girls from the midlands with
Dublin coming away as winners in 2002 and 2003.

Dublin has made one change in personnel from the semi final versus
Louth. Man-O-War star Niamh Hurley loses out to Ballyboden’s Sorcha
Farrelly in the Dub’s defence as Farrelly resumes her position
at corner back. Louise Keegan moves from right corner back to
centre back with Gemma Fay moving to the wing. Niamh McEvoy goes
from Left half back to right half back. From midfield to left
corner forward it is as you were versus Louth.

Dublin will be hoping that Mary Nevin keeps her shooting boots
on as the Na Fianna star is Dublin’s top scorer in the championship
to date having amassed 2g-19pts en route to the final. Last year
Nevin was the player of the match having scored 12 points of her
team’s total of 16. Nevin will be ably assisted up front with
Karen Hopkins and Angie McNally also in superb form this season.

When Laois last won Leinster in 2001 they went onto to capture
the All Ireland title when they defeated Mayo following a last
gasp Mary Kirwan free. How Dublin would have loved to have achieved
that same feat against Mayo last October however for now everybody’s
thoughts must turn to the 2004 provincial decider. Dublin of course
is hoping to make it three in a row of Leinster titles a first
for the girls from the capital.

What ever the outcome of Sunday’s final all is not over for the
provincials runners up in the senior championship with the losing
teams from all four provinces having a second chance of All Ireland
glory via the back door. The draw for which takes place on the
15th of August with the format being the four provincial’s runners
up versus the four provincial winners of course Dublin and Laois
cannot meet again in the quarter final which takes place on the
28th of August.

With the Dublin men’s team giving their supporters a few headaches
by taking the scenic route to Croke Park this summer the legions
of Dub’s fans are encouraged to travel to Carlow on Sunday to
add volume and support to a Dublin team who without doubt are
one of the favourites for All Ireland glory this year.

Dublin v Laois: Cliodhna O’Connor, Sorcha Farrelly, Noelle
Comyn, Maria Kavanagh, Niamh McEvoy, Louise Keegan, Gemma Fay,
Martina Farrell, Fiona Corcoran, Louise Kelly, Bernie Finlay,
Katie Joyce, Karen Hopkins, Angie McNally, Mary Nevin.
