Dublin retain their title in style

Tg4 Leinster Final.
Dublin retain their title in style.
Dublin 0-16 Laois 1-7.

Laois went into this Leinster final slight favourites after
winning the Suzuki Div 1 National League final. But as happens
so often the league campaign is not a true barometer for
championship aspirations. So Dublin the holders of the title
ousted the league Champions and the All-Ireland champions
of 2002.

However all is not lost for Laois this year there is a backdoor
system and they are now in the All-Ireland quarter final
.Dublins win earns them a semi-final spot and on the form
displayed against Laois they will make a bold bid for ultimate
honours.

Dublin have a new scoring sensation in Mary Nevin who contributed
a fine total of 12 points to the total. Nine of those were
from frees and one wonders with the high rate of scores
from frees in many of the senior Championship matches to
date is the game degenerating into a free ridden exercise.
It would be a pity if the attractive open play associated
with Ladies Football would be brought down to the level
of dragging and tearing.

Laois will now have to regroup following their 2nd half
demise, they were just a point adrift at the break. No doubt
they will have learned their lesson from this setback.

M Keogh 0-1.
