Excitement Builds for National U17 Development Academy Blitz

Tomorrow (Tuesday) will once again see another feast of ladies football being displayed in the fantastic surroundings of Naomh Mearnog GAA Grounds in Portmarnock, Dublin. This time it is the turn of our County U17 Academy players to showcase their various skills.

Last year was the first time the U17 Academy Programme blitz took place and due to its resounding success has returned again this year.

In total, ten teams representing nine Counties will participate in the blitz namely Cork (2 teams), Mayo, Armagh, Down, Meath, Carlow, Dublin, Kildare and we are delighted to also have with us New York. The latter are sure to bring a real international feel to the day and in addition raise the standard even further.

The days events kick off with registration at 10.15am in the morning and activities will continue right through to late afternoon. From many, this will be the first time they have being given the opportunity to wear the County Jersey so it is a big day for all.

This year Armagh and Kildare will be looking to retain the Cup and Shield they won impressively last year respectively while we are sure to see a new name on the Plate due to last year’s winners Waterford not participating in the blitz this year. However, while winning silverware is great, this blitz is unique in that the main focus is on the development of the player with winning being an added bonus.

The weather may be un-predictable at present but one thing for sure is the football is going to be great so if free then why not pop out to Naomh Mearnog tomorrow and observe the quality football that will be on show!
