foxrock-Cabinteely match and club report

Foxrock-Cabinteely’s star continues to soar high when the adult team were crowned Dublin Intermediate Champions in Parnell Park earlier this month. It was an amazing achievement considering that it was their first year at this level, following their historic win of the VHI All-Ireland Junior title last year. The final against Garda was a thrilling encounter with Fox-Cab seeming to have run away with the match at half time by a score of 2-6 to O-5, thanks to goals from Player of the Match Ciara Murphy and Leinster Young Player of the year Amy Connolly. The experience of Garda, who have contested several senior finals, began to show in the second half. They bought their side back to within three points with goals coming from Michelle Doyle and Niamh Bonnar. However Fox-Cab held their nerves with a dazzling display from the forwards that was evident all night. Ciara O’Riordan, still an under-16 player showed the experience of a girl twice her age by finding the net from a well executed pass from Ciara Murphy. The match was over at this stage with Fox-Cab winning by a comfortable six points. All that was left to do was for Captain Marla Candon to lift the trophy to a huge applause of the hundreds of supporters who travelled out to watch them. The team now go forward to the Leinster Club Championship where they meet the Kildare Champions Eadestown on 24th September at UCD. Success for the club has also happened for our girls at the opposite end of the age spectrum with our under -10s and under-11s having already secured silverware for their respective leagues. Our Minor team, many of whom play for the adult team have also won the league while we have a raft of players on both the senior an under-age Dublin Teams, including Sinead Goldrick who captained the Dublin team to win the All-Ireland minor final in August. The juvenile championships begin in October and let’s hope a few more trophies can be added to the cabinet!
