Guide to TESCO Homegrown NFL Promotion & Relegation

With so much at stake this weekend in the TESCO Homegrown National Football Leagues and so many possibilities we have gone through the top 2 Divisions team by team to tell you what they need to avoid relegation/reach the play offs.

TESCO Homegrown Division 1

Monaghan

Monaghan sit proudly at the top of the TESCO Homegrown NFL Division 1 but they are not in action this weekend. They will confirm their place in the Division 1 semi-finals if Laois pull off a surprise victory against Cork.

Kerry

With two games left, two wins will see them qualify for the semi final in 1st place as no other county can match their potential points total. This weekend they play a weakened Mayo team knowing that a win will send them through to the semi-finals.

Dublin

The only undefeated team in Division 1 can also secure their passage to the semi finals if they defeat Tyrone away from home and if Kerry defeat Mayo.

Mayo

In the absence of Cora Staunton and Yvonne Byrne, Mayo will need to record a win over Kerry this weekend  to be in with a chance of reaching the knock out stages whilst a defeat for Cork would see them through to the semi finals.

Cork

Cork are in a precarious position in the league following 2 defeats and a draw in previous rounds they simply can not afford to lose any further points. Victory over Laois will end Laois’ hopes of a top 4 finish whilst a Kerry victory over Mayo would send Cork to the final round of matches with their fate in their own hands. If Mayo defeat Kerry and Cork were to lose to Laois then that would be the end of the Rebellettes chances of going through to the semi finals.

Laois

Laois conceded their midweek fixture away to Kerry which has made their task of reaching the playoffs all the more difficult. They retain hope of qualifying for the last 4 again this year but this can only be achieved if they can defeat Cork away from home this weekend. They will also need Kerry to record a victory over Mayo to send them into the final round of fixtures with hopes of qualification.

Tyrone

Tyrone are safe from relegation and can’t qualify for the semi finals, this weekend is all about pride for the Ulster county.

Donegal

Donegal have already been relegated and have no fixture this weekend.

 

TESCO Homegrown NFL Division 2

Galway

Galway have already qualified for the knock out stages but will want to make a statement against Meath who are potential opposition in the semi-final stages.

Westmeath

A win for Westmeath this weekend cements their place in the knock out stages but Clare have plenty to play for so it is far from a foregone conclusion.

Down

It has been a mixed bag for Down this season following last year’s promotion. They are not in action this weekend having played and lost to Kildare during the week. They will hope that Clare fall short against Westmeath at the weekend meaning that the two sides will face each other in the final round in a straight shoot out for promotion.

Meath

Meath are lucky to have their fate in their own hands. Although they can’t achieve a playoff position this weekend they know that victories in their final two fixtures will see them through.

Clare

Clare have a tough fixture this weekend against Westmeath which they must win. Victory this weekend puts them through to a final round shootout with Down.

Cavan

A win for Cavan this weekend against Fermanagh gives them hope of qualifying but they will also need a Meath loss to Galway to send them to the last round of fixtures with hope of qualification, however, in that last round they face a Galway side that have a 100% record to date.

Kildare 

Kildare have a chance of qualification but it is remote. They are out of action this weekend meaning that they need Meath to lose this weekend to give them any hope of qualification.

Fermanagh

Despite not picking up any points to date and trailing by 6 points Fermanagh are actually still in with a chance of staying up. They have to win their remaining 2 fixtures against Cavan and Meath and hope that Kildare and Cavan both lost their final round to create the 3 way tie that would mean a play off would be needed to decide who goes down.
