Meath Ladies Preview Leinster Senior Championship Semi Final Meath v Dublin Excitement is brewing in the Meath Ladies football camp this week as they prepare once again for their Leinster Championship semi final against old rivals Dublin. Preparations are going well with challenges against Louth, Westmeath, Galway and Sligo, all affording manager Brendan Dardis the best possible chance to see his team in action before settling on his final 15 for the crucial semi final next Saturday. Victory against Dublin would see the Royals in their first Leinster Final in three years, and it won’t be an easy task. The Jackies are boosted by a well run League campaign, defeating reigning League Champions Cork in the round robin section, but drawing them in the semi final and losing on that occasion. Dublin had three players on the Division 1 Team of the League, Goalkeeper Cliodhna O’Connor, corner back Maria Kavanagh and full forward Sinead Aherne. Meath had a strange start to the year, beginning it with a Championship relegation tie against Waterford that ran from the previous year. It was a game that was to boost the Royals as they comprehensively defeated Waterford on a wet winter’s day in Wicklow. They managed reasonably in the league, their first venture into division two since they won the competition in 1995. The reached the quarter final stages where they faced a much improved Waterford team who ran out easy winners after extra time. Meath received one position on the Division Two team of the League; Grainne Nulty received the award for the number eight position on the team. Meath had a disaster in last year’s Leinster championship, exiting it meekly at the hands of Dublin. Brendan Dardis will be hoping his charges will make amends to this next Saturday, and set up a Leinster Final against local rivals Kildare who surprisingly beat Laois after extra time this weekend. Like most Meath teams, the Ladies will relish their underdog stance and are quietly optimistic they have what it takes to defeat the Jackies. The semi final is a curtain raiser to the Meath men’s first round qualifier against Waterford. Throw in Páirc Tailteann is 4.30pm. All supporters are welcome. Share this Article 0 0
