LGFA Annual Congress Set for Clare

TG4 Ladies Football All-Star Awards 2014

The Annual Congress of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association will take place in County Clare this weekend as delgates from right around the country and beyond assemble at the Inn at Dromoland to review 2014 and plan for the forthcoming year.

The congress will get underway on Friday, March 6th, with an official welcome from the President of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association, Pat Quill along with the President of the Munster Ladies Gaelic Football Association, Ian O’Brien and the Chariperson of the host county, Clare, Bernie Regan.

The first order of business will include reports from all units of the association including provincial councils. Presentations will also be made by the Development Department, Finance, Fixtures and the injury fund along with a report from the Chief Executive Officer of the LGFA, Helen O’Rourke.

On Saturday, March 8th, attention will turn to ammendments to the playing rules of the association as 49 motions proposed from county boards are debated and voted on with those successful being added to the LGFA rules.

However, the biggest single activity that will take place in Clare will be the official inauguration of Marie Hickey as the new president of the LGFA as she begins her term of office. Marie, who served as president of the Leinster County board was elected at last year’s congress in Wexford and will officially become the president as outgoing president, Pat Quill, steps aside.

Pat Quill’s six year term as president of the association comes to an end at the weekend after a period of unprecedented growth and innovation within the sport. This was Pat’s second term serving as president having previously held the office between 1985 and 1988. Pat is sure to be given a great send off by all in attendance following a very successful term in office.

Speaking about the upcoming Annual Congress in Clare Mr. Quill said ‘We are very much looking forward to coming to Clare this weekend. The Inn at Dromoland is a very suitable venue for what is one of the most important days in the Ladies Gaelic Football Calendar. We are very much looking forward to reviewing a successful 2014 and planning for 2015 and the years to come. I would like to wish Marie Hickey the very best of luck as she is inaugurated as president, I have no doubt that she will be an excellent leader as we look forward to the future. I would like to thank the Clare County Board for all the work that they have done since they were announced as hosts of congress and I am sure that they will give a great welcome to all of the delegates as we gather to shape the future of Ladies Gaelic Football.’
