Longford v Fermanagh Intermediate Preview

Longford v Fermanagh Preview

Longford  v  Fermanagh

Longford and Fermanagh go head to head on Sunday next (17/08/08) in Templeport at 3pm. to determine who will meet Clare in the second TG4 all Ireland Intermediate semi-final.
Longford will feel very unlucky, not too have finished top of group ‘B’  having been pip at the post at home in the final seconds of their round four game against Wexford (2-8 to 3-7).
This play off match has all the ingredients for a cracker of a game, as both sides are no strangers to one another, their first clash of the season was in round four of the Suzuki NFL way back in March, Fermanagh were the hosts and the winners (2-5 to 0-6) on the day.

Their most recent meeting was on Sunday last, Fermanagh were the guests, as both sides squared up to each other in the fifth and final round robin game of the TG4 group ‘B’Intermediate championship, the home side were the victors with three points to spare ( 5-6 to 1-15) on that occasion.

However, if we look back to the TG4 Intermediate championship of 2007,  these two sides were also pitched against each other, and it was the Fermanagh side that were three points to the good (1-14 to 2-8) at the end of that encounter. Although the Ulster side have a slight advantage, I’m sure that there will be very little between the sides on Sunday next, the man in the middle will be Declan Corcoran from Mayo, best of luck to both sides, and hopefully mother nature will turn the taps off for a couple of hours on the day.
