Player of the Month for May

Clare’s Áine Kelly has been named the Lucozade Sport/Irish Independent Player of the Month for May following her outstanding performances during the Banner’s Suzuki National League Division 2 winning campaign.

Clare narrowly beat Donegal by a scoreline of 2-10 to 0-15 in the Suzuki National League Division 2 final, with 20 year old Kelly scoring the second of Clare’s goals in front of a live television audience and going on to win the player of the match award for her pivotal role in the victory.

“It’s a great honour to be picked as the player of the month and I’d like to acknowledge the rest of the Clare team and our coaching staff in accepting it,” Kelly said at a presentation ceremony at Croke Park.

“Winning the Division 2 final was a huge success for us and we certainly plan on maintaining our form into the Intermediate Championship. We’ve been there or thereabouts over the past few years and this year we’ll be looking to take it a step further.”

Clare kick off their Intermediate Championship campaign on 6th July against Roscommon, who were relegated from the Senior Championship last year.
