Meath U/14s still on a high from beating reigning All Ireland Champions Dublin in Round 1 travelled to Bray for their second round clash with Wicklow.
Meath were first off the mark when barely twenty seconds into the game Katie Callaghan sent over the Royals first point. With a very strong wind blowing straight across the pitch both teams found the going difficult in the early stages. Meath however settled quicker and it was Adrienne McCann who coolly slotted in the first goal to take Meath into a 1 – 01 to no score lead after five minutes.
Wicklow however found their rhythm and after seven minutes they put over their first point from a free. A minute later against the run of play they drew level after a well taken goal by the full forward. Meath once again regained their composure and with Áine Bennett (2pts), A. McCann (1pt) and a wonderful goal by Laura Dempsey the Meath girls were on the march again.
A massive hail shower put a stop to the Meath charge and Wicklow took control for the next ten minutes sending over five unanswered points. Meath were looking ragged at this stage but once again they managed to up the tempo and with Katie Callaghan and Áine Bennett in superb form they took the next three points. The Meath girls went into the break with four points to spare with a scoreline of 2 – 07 to 1 – 06.

The second half was all about Meath. The midfield pairing of Sinead Coyle and Leanne Lynch dominated the middle of the park and the ball rarely passed the halfway line. Coyle and Callaghan were putting points over from all angles and A. McCann cemented the result with an unstoppable goal in the fifteenth minute.
Coyle once again put her name on the score sheet when she too netted in the twentieth minute. The Meath girls added another goal and three points before the end of the game with Lauren McCann netting the goal. Wicklow managed a solitary score just on the stroke of full time.

Meaths Round 3 game will be against Kildare on Saturday next April 5th at a venue TBC.
