Munster club double for Cork. By Fr Liam Kelleher

Cork clubs Mourneabbey Intermediate and Inch Rovers Senior captured
their respective Munster Crowns in ideal conditions on Saturday
last. Senior Final Inch Rovers 1-12 Southern Gaels 1-11 Suffering
more than a little from the celebrations of their first Co Senior
Championship title the week before , Inch Rovers had to dig very
deep to fashion an exciting one point t win over the Kerry Champions
Southern Gaels. Bidding to restore the pride of the Kingdom in
the Ladies arena the Kerry girls really put it up to Inch. Scoring
was at a premium in the opening half which was dominated for long
spells by Southern Gaels who led 6 points to 4 at the break after
slotting over the first 3 points

They were powered by Kerry Stars Sarah O’Connor, Caroline Kelly
and International Soccer star Kacy O’Driscoll. Inch while relatively
inexperienced at Club Senior level had the confidence from their
wins over Donoughmore in the Semi and St Val’s in the final of
the Cork Championship and with Inter-co players, Angela Walsh,
Ciara Walsh, Amy O’Shea and Anne Marie Walsh, Senior, Annie Walsh
Claire Kennedy Senior B Claire Keohane under 16 and the exciting
Jessica O’Shea under 14 they had the talent. It was even steven
for the opening period of the 2nd half and it took a goal from
star forward Amy O’Shea mid way through the 2nd half to get Inch
back on track. They still had to fight tooth and nail to the finish
to progress to the All-Ireland series. It was a great day for
Jill Horan who in the space of a few hours won the Munster Club
camogie title with Cashel before travelling onto Feenagh to complete
the double. Ironically Mary O’Connor Inch capt but ruled out with
injury won the same double a few years ago in the same season
but not on the same day, her camogie win was with Granagh/Ballingarry
while the football win was with former kingspins Donoughmore Inch
Scorers Amy O’Shea 1-2. Claire Keohane 0-4. AnnMarie Walsh 0-3.
Annie Walsh 0-2 Jessica O’Shea 0-1 Mourenabbey 4-17 Cooraclare
0-7

In contrast to the Senior game Mourneabbey had a runaway win over
the Clare champions in the Intermediate final. Leading by 2-14
to 0-5 at the break they were never troubled in this lopsided
encounter. Scores came with regular monotony with Laura Harrington
contributing 2-4 Kathleen O’Brien 1-2. Jenny McCarthy 0-5 Niamh
O’Regan 1-0 Ciara O’Sullivan 0-2 Siobhan Forde 0-2 Eva O’Donoghue
0-1 Sile O’Callaghan 0-1. The Clyda girls now march on to the
All-Ireland series and many will fancy them to add the All-Ireland
Inter title to the Junior one they won so impressively 2 years
ago.

Co Under 16 A final

Naomh Fionbarra 3-8 Rosscarbery 1-6 Played in ideal conditions
at Kilmurray on Sunday Naomh Fionbarra played an exciting brand
of football to score a comprehensive victory over the Ross girls.
Very strong in defense with keeper and capt Mary Cronin leading
by example the Ballingeary/Inchigeelagh combination had the game
virtually sewn up by halftime leading 2-6 to 0-1 but a spirited
fight back was never going to oust them because of their outstanding
defense in which Ciara Ni Riordain and Rachel ni Mhuineachain
were superb. Cork under 16 star Leannne Kearney gave them a big
edge at midfield and the forwards did the rest their main scorers
being Eilis Twomey 2-1 and Eilis Kearney 1-2. Rosscarbery were
not as balanced and had to rely too much on Tara Maguire and Michaela
Davis.

Co Under 12 A Final.

Congrats to Donoughmore who scored an exciting one point win over
neighbours St vals in the Co under 12 A final at Coachford on
Saturday. Donoughmore reversed the league placings by scoring
4-6 to 3-8 win. Eire og won the B final, Clonakilty the C final
and Carrigtwohill the D final.
