Purples patches earn Glenamaddy Lidl All-Ireland PPS Senior B title

All-Ireland PPS Senior B Ladies Football Final – Sunday, 15th April

Glenamaddy Community School 5-13 Presentation, Thurles 2-7

Purple patches either side of half-time secured Glenamaddy Community School the Lidl All-Ireland Senior B Post Primary Schools title in Ballinasloe today.

Ailish Morrissey struck two majors in a five-minute spell that saw the Galway side overturn a four-point deficit before Lynsey Noone’s first strike after the restart put distance between the teams.

The teams shared the first four scores before Aoife Smyth kicked a Glenamaddy free to make it 0-3 to 0-2 on the quarter hour but Presentation’s attack had look threatening and were eventually rewarded within 60 seconds.

Casey Hennessy lined out for the Tipperary minor camogie team on Saturday but showed no ill effects as her darting run on 16 minutes saw space open up before beating Amy Ward for the first goal.

With Muireann O’Connell and Roisin Daly also testing the Glenamaddy defence, Barry Ryan’s team looked in control against the wind and O’Connell set up Hennessy four minutes later for a second green flag and Presentation led 2-2 to 0-4.

However, unforced errors in defence eventually came back to haunt the Thurles school as Glenamaddy overturned the initiative in a five-minute spell.

Niamh Collins did the work that led to Morrissey’s first goal on 16 minutes before Eva Noone pointed following two kick out malfunctions for Presentation.

Morrissey added a free but when captain Maeve Flanagan overturned possession again, she picked out the Kilkerrin/Clonberne attacker who went for the lob and successfully sent the ball over Muireann Lloyd for a second goal.

Collins and Hennessey traded before half-time leaving it 2-7 to 2-3 but the expected Tipperary surge didn’t materialise in the second half.  Morrissey and Hannah Noone put six between them before Lynsey Noone was rewarded for her hard work with the third goal.  Morrissey and Hannah Noone again made it 3-11 to 2-3 on 34 minutes.

Lauren McCormack converted a free and Daly rattled the crossbar before Hennessy finished Ellen Moore’s move to leave it 3-11 to 2-5.  But that was as close as Presentation got.

Morrissey and Collins tallied either side of a McCormack free but two goals in two minutes finished the contest as Lynsey Noone and Aisling Ward got the fourth and fifth majors before Presentation’s Ciara Dwan concluded the scoring.  But this was Glenamaddy’s day!
