Ladies National Football League – Division 3

Limerick 3-13
Dublin 0-05

After recent setbacks Limerick got back on track
with a comprehensive victory over Dublin. The game
was played in The Ragg (Tipperary), with the pitch
in perfect condition.

Limerick aided by a very sharp breeze started in
whirlwind fashion and after four minutes of play lead
1-3 to 0-0, Louise Higgins at full forward accounted
for 1-2 of that tally and Katie Collins the other
point. Dublin had a point in the fifth minute, their
first and only score of the half. This was quickly
followed by points from Louise Higgins who at this
stage was proving a handful for the Dublin defence
and Catriona Ambrose in the eighth minute. After the
poor start Dublin tried to get back on track and in
the following ten minutes they threatened the Limerick
goal on a few occasions but they failed to capitalise
as a result of poor shooting and some good defensive
work from team captain Meadhbh Nash. In the final
ten minutes of the half Limerick had five points in
succession, two a piece from Louise Higgins and Katie
Collins and another from Leanne Higgins. Limerick
went in at the interval 1-10 to 0-1.

On the resumption Limerick extended their lead with
two points from Louise Higgins. Limerick were awarded
a penalty in the thirty-seventh minute which Mary
Shire (an ex Dublin player) sent past the Dublin keeper.
Shortly after Mary got her name on the score sheet
again with a well taken point. Catherine Murphy had
her first score of the game with a point in the forty-fourth
minute. Limerick despite been well on top failed to
score for the remainder of the game. Dublin had four
points in the final twelve minutes, three of these
from free kicks. Overall a relatively good performance
from Limerick who appear to have put recent disappointments
behind them and are still in with a chance of making
the knockout stages of the competition.

For Limerick team captain Meabhbh Nash lead by example
at the heart of defence, Louise Higgins was very impressive
on the edge of the square, ably assisted by her twin
sister Leanne in the corner. Katie Collins was also
in fine form.
