Suzuki National Football League Quarter Final – Dublin V Kerry
Saturday March 29th 2003, Parnell Park.
Full Time Score: Dublin 0- 11 , Kerry 3-09.
Half Time Score: Dublin 0-05 , Kerry 2-05.

Dublin and Kerry ladies footballers were the curtain raiser to the Hurlers of Kilkenny and Dublin and those Dublin supporters who came to Parnell Park to take in both games were treated to a superb game of Ladies Football. However it was the Kerry supporters who went home happy as Kerry secured their place in the Semi Final of the League for a second year in a row. This was mainly due to the class and skill of the Kerry forwards who were a joy to watch with Kerry captain Geraldine O’Shea and Kacey O’Driscoll in outstanding form and by the end of the match both players had contributed 1-09 of Kerry’s total score.

O’Shea along with Katie Kenneally could have had more goals were it not for the brilliant saves pulled off by Dublin keeper Cliona O’ Connor. However Dublin could easily have snatch this game away from Kerry, although Dublin trailed Kerry by 6 points at half time Dublin ploughed their way back into the game in the second half and were within two pints of Kerry with ten minutes remaining when Kerry scored their third goal, the goal came from a free kick on the 21 yard line that somehow managed to get by the Dublin defence and under keeper Cliona O Connor, that goal was the killer blow for Dublin but the Dub’s never gave up and had a number of opportunities late in the match but failed to hit the target.

Dublin can take heart with the performance of Elaine Kelly who had another superb game for Dublin playing at midfield Elaine scored 3 superb points and was causing the Kerry defence problems with her superb running with the ball, Louise Keegan and Elaine Murphy also contributed well for Dublin with Angie McNally once more giving her all for the Dublin cause.

Dublin will have to regroup and set the focus on retaining their Leinster crown with Dublin’s championship campaign kicking off on the 22nd of June. This will give key players such as Louise Kelly, Lorraine Roche and Martina Farrell time to get back to form and full fitness as they have been plagued by injury in recent weeks.
