TG4 All Stars Set to Be Named

TG4 Ladies Football All-Star Awards 2013

The 2014 TG4 All Stars selection will be revealed at the Citywest Hotel on Saturday night. The 15 All Stars will be named along with the TG4 Player’s Player of the Year Award Winners from the Senior, Intermediate and Junior Grades.

The newest entrant to the Ladies Football Hall of Fame will be Phyllis Hackett Price from Offaly. Phyllis is one of the earliest stars of the sport as she took part in the first ever Ladies Intercounty Football match between Offaly and Kerry in 1973. Phyllis also played for Offaly in the first ever All Ireland Final in 1974 against Tipperary, unfortunately Phyllis did finish on the losing side that year and again in 1976 but she did go on to win two All Irelands in 1979 and again in 1981. Phyllis was also involved in an administrative capacity serving as the first ever county chairperson and following that with years of service as secretary all whilst also playing in the colours of her beloved Offaly.

Also to be honoured on Saturday are the rising stars of the game with one Young Player of the Year from each of the four provinces presented with their award. Róisín Egan from Naomh Ciarán in Offaly will receive the Leinster Young Player of the Year Award, Cavan’s Geraldine Smith from Killygarry, will be presented with the Ulster Young player of the Year Award, Aishling Moloney from Cahir in Tipperary is the Munster recipient and the Connacht Young Player of the Year award winner is Rebecca Waldron from Davitt’s in Mayo.

Cora Staunton could join Kerry legend, Mary Jo Curran, as the winner of the most All Stars if she should win her tenth All Star award on Saturday, the Mayo star was the joint second highest scorer in the championship this year despite being knocked out at the quarter final stage. Briege Corkery is in line to become a dual All Star winner after being honoured with a camogie All Star last weekend. The All Ireland winning Cork captain has already won 7 All Star awards to date and should she win on Saturday it will be her 4th All Star in a row. The 2013 TG4 Player’s Player of the Year Award winner, Geraldine O’Flynn, is also in line for her 4th All Star award in a row whilst Dublin’s captain, Sinead Goldrick, is hoping to make it a hattrick of All Stars.
