Wexford too Strong in TG4 Junior Decider

Wexford 3:10 Louth 2:05

Wexford produced a dominant performance to triumph over Louth in the Leinster Junior Championship Final. Goals from their full forward Fiona Bennett were to provide the platform on which the Wexford performance was built.

Wexford got off to a fantastic start with a goal from their first attack with Maria Byrne adding a point before Niamh Moore and Katie Flood exchanged scores to leave a goal between the sides. Aimee McNally had the chance to score Wexford’s second goal but her rising effort went over the crossbar with Aoife Byrne adding another shortly after. Laura Rodgers got on the scoreboard then with a brilliant point before Rebecca McCann replied with a badly needed Louth point to keep Louth in touch at half time trailing 1:05 to 0:03.

Wexford took up where they left off in the second half with immediately pointing followed by a superb pointed free from distance for Grace Lynch but Wexford replied with two points of their own through Niamh Moore and Katie Redmond before Fiona Byrne crashed Wexford’s second goal to the net. To Louth’s credit they replied immediately with a point from Laura Matthews and followed that up with a goal before Fiona Barrett settled Wexford nerves with a well taken point.

Bennett then struck again immediately for Wexford’s third goal to wrap up the match with Katie Redmond adding a point to give them more breathing space but they were given plenty to think about as substitute, Laura Matthew’s struck for Louth’s second goal. However, Katie Redmond scored the last point of the game to ensure that the 2014 TG4 Leinster Junior Football Champions would be Wexford who won on a scoreline of 2:05 to 3:10 with Fiona Barrett names as the Player of the Match.
