Senior Ladies championship Semi-finals.
Blessington 2.11 v Bray Emmets 0-4

Blessington blitzed their old enemy Bray Emmets in what was a very
one sided affair in Dunlavin on Sunday last, the Bray ladies had
no answer to Blessingtons determination to win ball throughout the
game, down 1-7 to a single point at the break, there would be no
way back for the Bray side in the second half. Blessingtons winning
margin of 13 points could have been greater only for a number of
point blank saves in the first and second halves of the game by
Brays keeper Christine Murphy. After an absence of a number of months,
the experienced Elaine Murphy was recalled in to the Blessington
side, and it was a move that payed off, Murphy dominated the midfield
area , supplying quality ball to Jessica Carroll, Jenny Foster,
Maura Reid and Grainne Ryan in the forward line. Blessington’s back
line of Marie Kavanagh, Brenda Kavanagh and Breda Reid also played
a big part in securing the win for the west Wicklow side, in particular
their center back Mary Whelan who ensured that her defensive wall
was not going to be breeched by Brays young forwards on the day.

Blessington will meet the winners of the second semi-final between
Arklow Geraldines/Ballymoney and Valleymount in the final on the
7th of August in the county grounds, Aughrim.

13, O’Connells hard work ensured that Brophy only managed one point

of the net, Higgins finished the half with a point two minute in

Green to pare Arklow’s lead back to six points. However as hard
as the west Wicklow side tried, they were unable to break down Arklow’s
defensive unit of Helen Hurley, Mary Furlong, Christine Byrne, supported
by Nora O’Connell, Naomi Ryder and center back Brenda Halligan,
who gave their all through out the game. The final quarter of the
game was probably the most tense time for both sides, while Arklow
were in control, the Valleymount side dug deep and were rewarded
