Sligo Ladies Notes

The Sligo Ladies bowed out of the Championship on Saturday last as Down stole a Sligo worthy win. The first half was dominated by Down with a half time score of 2.10 to 1.6.  Stephanie O’Reilly scored the goal for Sligo.  A 7 point gap was not a big challenge but in the past Down has always been too strong for Sligo securing victories in past games. The second half was a different game Sligo started confident and proved they were an equal side.  They only managed to let Down score 4 points in the second half while Sligo narrowed the gap with every taken score.  Roisin Collery and Stephanie O’Reilly got further goals to bridge the gap which rallied the players.  With 10 mins to go Sligo were 4 points down. Missed chances by Sligo would have put them ahead on several occasions but the Down keeper was given a few easy saves.  Down hadn’t scored and as the time ticked on Sligo got the deserving points and had them within reach.  As they went 3 points down then 2 points it was looking like Sligo could steal the game and as they got to within 1 point the referee blew his whistle leaving them no time for the equalizer. The Final score in clones was 2.14 to 3.10.
