Sligo Notes 25.03.2013

League games are under way with fixtures been circulated to all clubs if you haven’t received them make contact with your club secretary or county delegates.  We wish all clubs a very successful league season.  For any queries on fixtures or game times and venues please contact Tom Keane (Fixtures committee) on 087 6325108.  As games are commencing all clubs are asked to ensure all player are registered with the association as soon as possible and that new players are dealt with immediately.  It is important to note that players are not covered under the injury fund if they are not registered.

The U14 County Team attended a Connacht Bliz on Sunday last in Ballyhaunis.  They were victorious over Roscommon but lost out to Mayo and Galway.  A sincere thank you is extended to the management and staff of Cawleys Hotel, Tubbercurry who hosted after game refreshments for the team.  The U14 team continue with training and play their first County Game of the season on Saturday 6th April in Sligo IT grounds at 5pm.  They play a strong Leitrim side and will need good support from those available to attend on the 6th.

The Minor County Team are away to Leitrim on 1st April.  (Time and venue yet to be confirmed)  Under new Management the girls have been training hard and we wish them well.

The Intermediate Team played Wicklow on Sunday last and had a convincing win with a 6.16 to 0.5 scoreline.   Wicklow had got off to a bad start in the league and unfortunately had not achieved a win since commencing the games.  A Sligo win was expected but having lost previous games the girls had to prove their worth.  It was a bitterly cold but dry day and the Sligo girls started off strong and held Wicklow to a no score in the second half.  With the scoreline looking healthy in the second half the management rested some experienced players, which paved the way for the youth and up and coming players to show their talents to the Galway manager.  One such substitution was Denise McGrath (Ballymote) who placed 2 powerful goals to the back of the net.   They strength shown today from the Sligo bench will no doubt be a worry for some of Sligo’s regular starting 15.    The next round is against Wexford on Sunday 31st March in Markievicz Park the time is set for 2pm but an earlier start is possible given the travelling distance for Wexford.
