Tipperary Ladies Football Notes

They say goals win matches and this was the case in Ardfinnan last Saturday when Tipperary took on Kerry in the Munster ladies football championship.Tipperary came up against a much fitter and slicker Kerry outfit, but to tipp’s credit they battled hard to the final whistle.Despite conceding some soft goals, one of them an o.g there were some encouraging displays from the Tipperary girls with Samantha Lambert and Barbara Ryan in the backs,Jennifer Grant with 3 points from play and Trish Hickey and Gillian O Brien getting some fine scores. This was a very encouraging performance by the ladies who were only taken over by a new management team just 6 weeks ago and have put in a lot of work in those six weeks. Team manager Derry Peters was very impressed by the performance and paid tribute to the girls for their effort and commitment over the past couple of weeks and he was very optimistic about the future.Tipperary now head to the qualifiers due to be played w/e 28th July. We wish Derry and the senior girls the best of luck for the remainder of the year.

On a final note we would like to wish Tipperary goalie Louise Grogan a speedy recovery after suffering a serious injury in last Sundays game.Get well soon Louise.

Mullinahone win Junior B league Title

Well done to the Mullinahone Junior ladies team who defeated Fethard in the Junior B league final played in Ballingarry last Saturday evening.Played in terrible wet conditions both teams to their credit served up a great hours football.Mullinahone started brightly against a nervy Fethard team and raced into an early lead of 2-02 to 0-00 after 20 minutes.Fethard began to settle with 3 points in quick succession but Mullinahone finished the half with a point to lead 2-03 to 0-04.The second half began with both teams playing good open football despite the conditions and a third goal for Mullinahone seemed to put them in sight of the title.Fethard to their credit fought back with some quick scores and a goal in the 17th minute left them trailing by 2pts with 10 minutes remaining.he match was now on a knife edge with both teams giving their all but it was Mullinahone who held out for the win on the final scoreline of Mullinahone 3-06 Fethard 1-09.Both teams will now look forward to the championship with confidence as Mullinahone will now be one of the teams to beat and Fethard will also be pleased with their league campaign with this been their 1st year in B grade.Well done again to Mullinahone.
