U14 Ladies enjoy success

CABINTEELY U14 LADIES ENJOY SUCCESS AT
ALL IRELAND FEILE IN GALWAY

Cabinteely Under 14 Ladies Football team
are celebrating their successful participation in the All
Ireland Feile 2003 finals in Galway recently. They won all
their games in Division 1 Group B. They had a fine win over
host team Mountbellew/Moylough on Friday. In this game Mountbellew/Moylough
went ahead 4 points to no score. However, two quick goals
by Cabinteely near half time proved to be the turning point
in this game . There were excellent performances by captain,
Ciara Murphy, Amy Connoly and Sinead Goldrick. There were
also fine performances by Michelle Kavanagh, Gemma McKechnie,
Jane Creighton, Jennifer Curtin, Amy Clarkin and Maeve Cronin
and Deirdre McGing who came on as subs. The final score
was Cabinteely 5-7 Mountbellew/Moylough 4 points. The team
and mentors participated in the Feile parade to Pearse Stadium
on Friday evening which was a most enjoyable occasion. On
Saturday morning Cabinteely overcame a determined Glenamaddy
team in a close encounter, which finished Cabinteely 2-2
Glenamaddy 1-2. Joanna O’Connell’s goalkeeping was a feature
of this game with excellent outfield performances by Amy
Ring, Ciara O’Riordan. Aoife Martinho and Hazel Kidney.

Later on Saturday in one of the top games of the competition
Cabinteely overcame the well fancied Shelmaliers of Wexford
in a heart stopping clash. Cabinteely opened the scoring
with a point after 2 minutes. Shelmaliers quickly drew level
with a fine point. In the seventh minute Ciara Murphy had
to leave the field with what appeared to be a serious knee
injury. Grainne Killion did a great job in her absence.
Ciara returned to the fray in the second half giving a star
performance. Ailish Conlon, Leonn Ward and Aoife Kestell
gave fine performances in the forwards. Tara Jolly, Susan
Bracken, Amy Caulfield and Blanaid Callan were as reliable
as ever in the back line. The highlight of this game was
the second half scoring performance by Amy Connolly. She
scored points in the first, second, sixth, thirteenth and
seventeenth minutes. Cabinteely won on a score of 7 points
to 1-2. In the semifinal Beara, the eventual champions,
overcame Cabinteely with a top class performance. Mountbellew/Moylough
were outstanding hosts and our club Chairman, Eamon Clarkin,
has extended an invitation to them for a reciprocal visit
later in the year. Participation in All Ireland Feile 2003
was both successful and enjoyable. In summary, the team
performed beyond pre-Feile predictions.

Cabinteely Under 14 Ladies Football team
would like to thank everyone who helped to ensure their
participation in the Feile was both successful and enjoyable.
