2014 TESCO Homegrown Club Finalists Confirmed

Kilkerrin-Clonberne v Termon - TESCO HomeGrown All-Ireland Ladies Football Senior Club Championship Semi-Final

The 2014 TESCO Homegrown All Ireland Club Finalists have been confirmed following a tense weekend of competition at Junior, Intermediate and Senior level.

Termon and Mourneabbey will contest the final having come through their semi finals with both clubs pushed all the way in their respective encounters. Mourneabbey triumphed against Laois champions, Sarsfields Mount Mellick, but only after being made to battle right through to the final whistle. The Leinster champions hit the crossbar on no fewer than 3 occasions and both sides also missed penalties as there was very little to seperate them but Bríd O’Sullivan’s 44th minute goal was to prove the decisive score as Mourneabbey held out for a victory despite losing Ciara O’Sullivan to the sinbin for the closing minutes.

Donegal and Ulster champions, Termon triumphed in Galway against the Connacht champions, Kilkerrin Clonberne, thanks to another amazing display from their key forward Geraldine McLaughlin. McLoughlin and  Shannon McGroddy both registered good first half goals with a goal in reply from Lisa Gannon. When ace free taker Maureen O’Donnell scored to put Termon 2-07 to 1-05 ahead it allowed the Donegal club to defend in numbers. A superb goal from McLoughlin with 6 minutes to play put Termon in control and although Annette Clarke struck a penalty to the back of the net the Donegal champions were able to hold on for a famous win and they will now meet Cork’s Mourneabbey in the decider.

The Tesco Homegrown Intermediate Championship final will now be contested by Castleisland Desmonds from Kerry and Clonbur from Galway. Clonbur enjoyed a facile win over Four Masters in their semi final whereas the Kerry club needed extra time before finally overcoming Kilmacud Crokes of Dublin in their semi final.  Murroe Boher produced an exceptional display as they held Dee Rangers scoreless in their TESCO Homegrown Junior semi final and they will now meet St. Ciaran’s from Roscommon who had a narrow 2 point win over An Droim Mór Maoimh Damhnait in the other semi final.
