Tyrone 0-12

IN very bad weather conditions at Drumragh Sarsfields GAA grounds on Sunday, Tipperary ladies defeated Tyrone to go top of the Lidl National League Division 2.

Despite being down to 14 early in the second half when ace forward Aisling McCarthy was sin-binned, Tipp stuck to the game plan.

In that ten-minute spell, Tyrone scored 4 points to go one up but it was the only time in the sixty minutes that they led Tipp.

Tipp opened a five point gap with points from Aisling McCarthy, Aishling Moloney, Roisin Howard and Gillian O Brien.

After 5 minutes, four of the six tipp forwards were on the scoreboard.

Tyrone had a period of dominance between the 5th and 9th minutes but the Tipp defence was solid and particularly snuffed out the threat of Gemma Begley.

She was patrolled by Lorraine O’Shea, who managed to block four scoring chances available to the dangerous Tyrone forward.

Tyrone were also guilty of some bad wides while also dropping balls short into the hands of Tipperary goalkeeper Laura Dillion.

Tipp led at half time by 0-7 to 0-3.

For the first 7 minutes of the second half it was all Tyrone and they scored 5 unanswered points giving them a one point lead.

Eight minutes into the second half,  Tipp once again took control and a fisted point from Aishling Moloney brought the sides level.

A minute later Lorraine, hit a sweet point high over the bar from about 35 yards out to put Tipp one ahead – a lead they were never to lose.

Further points from Aoibhe O’Shea and Aisling McCarthy saw Tipp come away with a well deserved win.

When asked after the game , Tipp manager Shane Roynane was understandable delighted.

He said: “Absolutely thrilled with the win after such a long trip up,great testament to the attitude of all the players, delighted to have 3 out of 3 won and looking forward to another tough game next weekend against Cavan.

Tired, but happy, captain Samantha Lambert  concurred with her manager and said the “team showed great determination and happy to be top of the table”

Next up for the Tipp girls is another trip north when they take on Cavan at a Cavan venue next weekend.
